Scar Camouflage work Tattoo Before and After

3D Belly Buttoon Tattoo

Scar camouflage tattoo is an advanced paramedical tattooing technique used to reduce the appearance of visible scars by blending them with the surrounding skin tone. This specialized form of medical tattooing is designed for individuals seeking a non-surgical scar treatment or scar revision option that delivers natural-looking, long-lasting results.
At Imagine You New, scar camouflage is approached as both a medical and artistic procedure. Every scar behaves differently, which is why true scar camouflage requires experience, precision pigment matching, and a deep understanding of skin healing.
Certain surgical scars, such as those from brachioplasty, tummy tuck, and facelift procedures, require specialized camouflage approaches.
Scars involving the breast or areola area may benefit from specialized areola restoration and scar blending techniques.
Scar camouflage is a skin tone tattoo. I custom-mix pigments to match the exact shades in your skin, then work them into the scar so it blends with everything around it. It works beautifully on pale surgical scars, injury scars, and stretch marks. My studio is in St. Petersburg, Florida, and I've completed hundreds of documented cases for clients across the Tampa Bay area.
Scar Camouflage Cost, Results and Darker Skin in St. Petersburg, FL
How Much Does Scar Camouflage Cost?
Scar camouflage is priced two ways. There is a session price, which starts at $450, and there is a project price, which is one flat fee that covers all the sessions your scar needs. Many of my clients choose the project price so the work gets completed start to finish without worrying about the cost of each visit.
Your exact price depends on the size and condition of your scar, so I give you a firm number after your consultation. Clients come to my St. Petersburg studio from Tampa, Clearwater and Sarasota for this work.
Will My Scar Completely Disappear?
In many cases, a scar can be camouflaged so well that it is hard to tell it was ever there. Sometimes a little may still show, and that depends on the scar and your skin type.
I have been doing this work for a long time, and I am able to blend most scars beautifully. We build the result over your sessions, adjusting color as your skin heals, so the finished scar looks as natural as possible.
Is Scar Camouflage Safe for Darker Skin?
Yes, I work on darker skin. If you have hypopigmentation, meaning light scars or light spots where your natural color is missing, that is absolutely something I can help with. I add color back into the area so it blends with your natural tone.
I also do a lot of work lightening and camouflaging dark scars. Every scar and every skin tone is different, so the best first step is to upload a photo and email me what you would like done. I will let you know if it is a good fit, and from there we plan the right approach for your skin.
What Is Scar Camouflage Tattoo?
Scar camouflage tattooing is a skin-tone tattoo technique that deposits custom-blended pigments into the scar tissue to soften contrast, reduce discoloration, and create a more uniform appearance. Unlike decorative tattoos, this is a medical tattoo procedure focused on restoration—not decoration.
Scar camouflage may also be referred to as:
-
Scar cover tattoo
-
Medical scar camouflage
-
Paramedical tattoo for scars
-
Scar revision tattoo
-
Skin-tone tattooing for scars
This treatment does not remove scars, but it can significantly improve how noticeable they appear.
Who Is Scar Camouflage Tattoo For?
Scar camouflage tattoo may be a good option for individuals who:
-
Have fully healed scars (typically 12+ months old)
-
Are bothered by light, dark, or uneven scar coloration
-
Want a non-invasive scar treatment alternative
-
Are not candidates for additional surgery or laser treatments
-
Want a natural-looking scar revision solution
Each case is evaluated individually, as scar texture, age, and skin type all affect outcomes.
Types of Scars Treated with Scar Camouflage
Scar camouflage tattoo can be used to treat many types of scars, including:
-
Surgical scars
-
Post-procedure scars
-
Trauma and injury scars
-
Hypopigmented (white) scars
-
Hyperpigmented (dark) scars
-
Stretch marks
-
Burn scars
-
Self-harm scars
-
Breast and areola-related scars
Rather than listing every scar type in one place, specialized scar categories are addressed through focused treatment pages for more detailed information.
The Scar Camouflage Process
Scar camouflage tattooing is a gradual, layered process, not a one-time procedure.
Typical process includes:
-
Consultation & scar assessment
-
Custom pigment formulation based on surrounding skin
-
Layered pigment implantation over multiple sessions if needed
-
Healing and evaluation
-
Detail refinement sessions, when necessary
Most clients require 1–3 sessions, depending on the scar’s response to pigment and the desired outcome.
Healing, Results, and Longevity
Scar camouflage results evolve as the skin heals. Immediately after treatment, the area may appear darker or redder. As healing progresses, pigments soften and blend more naturally into the skin.
Results are considered long-lasting, though:
-
Sun exposure
-
Skin regeneration
-
Scar tissue behavior
can affect longevity over time. Maintenance or touch-up sessions may be recommended in some cases.
Why Experience Matters in Scar Camouflage
Scar camouflage tattooing is not the same as cosmetic tattooing.
Scar tissue behaves differently than healthy skin. Without proper training and experience, pigment can heal unevenly, shift in tone, or fail to integrate correctly.
As a specialized paramedical tattoo artist, experience in:
-
pigment theory
-
scar behavior
-
healing patterns
-
color correction
is essential for safe, natural-looking results.
Scar Camouflage vs Other Scar Treatments
Scar camouflage tattoo is often chosen when other scar treatment or scar revision options are not ideal.
Compared to:
-
Laser scar treatments
-
Surgical scar revision
-
Topical products
scar camouflage offers a non-surgical, customizable, and pigment-based solution focused on visual improvement rather than tissue removal.

Most clients need between 1 and 3 sessions, depending on scar type, size, and healing response.
Does scar camouflage work on all scars?
Not all scars are candidates. Scar age, texture, and skin tone must be evaluated during consultation.

Advanced numbing techniques are used, and most clients report minimal discomfort.

If you’re exploring options for scar cover, scar treatment, or scar revision, scar camouflage tattoo may be a powerful solution.

No. Scar camouflage does not remove scars. It improves their appearance by reducing contrast and blending color.
How many sessions will I need?

Does scar camouflage work on all scars?
Many scars can be camouflaged, including light, white, and hypopigmented scars, dark scars, and raised scars. It depends on your skin type and tone, so every scar is evaluated at consultation. Keloid scars are not treated.
Is scar camouflage painful?
Most clients are surprised by how comfortable it is. A 5% lidocaine numbing cream is applied and left on for a good amount of time before the session, so the area gets very numb.
How long does healing take?
Initial healing typically occurs within 7 to 14 days, with continued pigment settling over several weeks.
Can scar camouflage be done after surgery?
Yes, but scars must be fully healed, usually at least 12 months post-surgery.
How much does scar camouflage cost in St. Petersburg, FL?
Scar camouflage starts at $450 per session. I also offer a project price, one flat fee that covers every session your scar needs. Your exact price depends on the size and condition of the scar and is confirmed at your consultation.
Will my scar completely disappear with scar camouflage?
In many cases the scar is blended so well it is hard to see. Sometimes a little may still show, depending on the scar and your skin type. Results are built over your sessions so the scar looks as natural as possible.
Can scar camouflage be done on darker skin tones?
Yes. I work on darker skin, including hypopigmentation, where light scars or light spots need color added back to match your natural tone. I also lighten and camouflage dark scars. Send me a photo and I will let you know if it is a good fit.
Can I go in the sun after scar camouflage?
Stay out of the sun for at least two weeks after each session, and avoid tanning throughout your treatment. Tanned or darker skin changes your natural color, which makes it harder to match the pigment to your true skin tone. During treatment, it is best to skip sunscreen on the area when you can, especially chemical sunscreens, and keep it covered and out of the sun instead.
Can you be allergic to scar camouflage pigment?
Allergic reactions to the pigment are very rare. I have never had a client react to the color.
Can I get scar camouflage while pregnant or breastfeeding?
I do not perform scar camouflage on clients who are pregnant or breastfeeding. It is best to wait until after.
Do you do a test spot before scar camouflage?
Usually not. For some dark, hyperpigmented scars, a test spot can help decide the best direction for the color, so I may suggest one for those cases.
What happens if the color heals a little off?
It is never a big deal. Scar camouflage is built in layers, and I adjust the undertone and change the color at each session so the skin looks natural. Small shifts while we build color are a normal part of the process.
Can raised scars or keloids be camouflaged?
Raised scars can be camouflaged. Keloid scars are not treated with scar camouflage.
